At the end of the year 1327 AD, Christianity is experiencing its darkest period: the Pope from Avignon disputes with the Bavarian Emperor Ludovic for power over Italy, and the Church is split into two parts, one of which goes out to collect money and abuse all vices, and the other revolts against money, sometimes using iron and fire to purify the church and restore it to its original purity. And groups of gullible and loafers roam Italy and France, calling, out of every authority and suspicious of matters, for a holy war against the perverted clergy. Everyone from the Pope to the Emperor to the great merchants of the Italian cities use them to serve their interests.
In this atmosphere that almost heralds the end of the universe, Guglialmuda Bascarville, a Franciscan scholar and former investigator, arrives with his apprentice Benedictine Adso to a monastery in northern Italy, where they prepare for a meeting between two missions to negotiate in order to reach reconciliation within the Church. The monastery Guglialmo is assigned to investigate a series of horrific crimes that will continue throughout the seven days you will spend in the monastery, making the isolated monastery an island of safety in the midst of a raging storm, and from its labyrinthine library, a meeting place for immorality, madness and hatred, and a place where the messengers of the Antichrist struck an appointment to establish a field Death and the Requiem.
A semi-political semi-historical semi-philosophical novel What was before, what is happening now, or what is to come.
