The masterpiece of the Russian writer Leo Tolstoy, a literary novel that takes place at the beginning of the nineteenth century, with the French leader Napoleon Bonaparte’s invasion of Russian lands, entering Moscow and withdrawing after disappointment and failure in the face of the harsh Russian winter, and the Russian Tsar’s refusal to surrender. The first publication of the book was in 1869.
Between the events of war and peace revolve the events of the novel in which Tolstoy incorporated many characters, major and minor, historical and fictional, invented by Tolstoy himself. It also gives a broad and clear picture of the luxurious life lived by the nobility in Russia during the tsarist rule. There are those who believe that the main characters, such as Pierre Bezokob and Prince Andrey, represent different aspects of Tolstoy's character himself.
